HORSE ADOPTION Mid America Horse Rescue offers retiring racehorses sanctuary, rehabilitation, and continued education through placement in experienced, nuturing homes. As a horse enters the Mid America Horse Rescue program, their overall physical condition is assessed by our veterinarian and then our farrier. Once the horse has been cleared to begin training we begin their new life teaching communication and use of their body from the ground. When the horse exhibits a good understanding of what we are asking of them from the ground we then transfer that information to the saddle. Rehabilitation and vocational training is continued until a suitable adoption is arranged. APPLICATION & APPROVAL PROCESS Qualified applicants may submit an adoption application to Mid America Horse Rescue which includes an introductory visit to the facility, an application to complete and a 30 day requirement to spend with the horse and our staff. The application requires information regarding stabling, veterinary care and references. Processing time often depends on accessibility of references. Applicants should notify references that they will be contacted. Applicants will be notified via email or other designated means. Adoption fees range from $1000 to $2000 per horse depending on the length of time and training each horse has required. Older or disabled horses adoption fees will be determined on a case by case basis. Should the horse not prove suitable at any time Mid America Horse Rescue always reserves the right of first refusal.
